The 59 Lojong slogans form concise instructions on the view and practical application of Mahayana Buddhism and through contemplating them we can work to reverse our clinging to self and instead cultivate tenderness and compassion for others.
The Seven Points of Mind Training often referred to as Lojong Slogans are attributed to the great Indian Buddhist teacher Atisha who was born into a royal family in Bengal in 982 CE. They include a list of fifty-nine slogans which form concise instructions on the view and practical application of Mahayana Buddhism and through contemplation on these we can work to reverse our clinging to self and instead cultivate tenderness and compassion for others.
We are pleased that Dorothea Gädeke will share her understanding of two of these slogans in particular at our next City Retreat on Saturday 16 September from 10.30 until 1 pm.
Dorothea is from Freiburg in Germany and first came into contact with Shambhala in the USA in the late 70s becoming a member in 1980. She earns her living primarily by using her voice: through acting, as a radio speaker, a voice coach and voice therapist and also as a musician. She will join us via Zoom and we very much look forward to meeting and hearing from her in September.
The session is suitable for beginning or experienced meditators and will include some shamatha practice, with instruction if needed, talk, discussion and an opportunity to see how we can bring these slogans into our everyday lives.
DONATION:
A donation of £8 is suggested for this session. Please email [email protected] for bank details if you do not already have these.
